Tri-Com Central Dispatch (Tri-Com) located in Kane County, Illinois is Now Accepting Applications for the position of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Administrator (Full-time).

  Tri-Com provides 9-1-1 and dispatch services for seven (7) police departments and six (6) fire departments primarily located in Kane County in the far western suburbs of Chicago. Tri-Com serves an area of 200 square miles and a population of approximately 225,000 residents. Tri-Com employs an Executive Director, Deputy Director, IT Manager, Training Manager, CAD Administrator, GIS Administrator, Administrative Coordinator, Radio Technician, QA/QI Coordinator, 18 dispatchers and 3 working shift supervisors. Tri-Com is seeking highly skilled, motivated, and qualified candidates for the position of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Administrator. This is a unionized position and part of the collective bargaining agreement between Tri-Com Central Dispatch and the Metropolitan Alliance of Police, Chapter #531.

Job Summary & Distinguishing Features of the Work:

Under limited supervision, the CAD Administrator manages, maintains and operates all components of Tri-Com’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system hardware and software, including interfaces. This includes, but is not limited to: routine maintenance, data entry, coordinating updates to the GIS database and map, troubleshooting problems and installing software updates. Maintains the PSAP Management Gateway for the center’s 9-1-1 CPE, including agency and agent maintenance, end user screen configuration, layout, ESInet updates and telephone troubleshooting. Generates and processes any needed reports as required or requested. There is an expectation of after-hours availability in times of hardware or software issues when on-duty staff cannot resolve the issue.

Knowledge of:

  • 9-1-1, police and fire/EMS field operations and dispatch practices in a multi-discipline, multijurisdictional public safety communications environment
  • Personal computer skills, email, record keeping database activity, and word processing
  • Computer hardware and software installation and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of GIS and its application to local government and public safety
  • All applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations
  • All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job
  • Department organization, standard operating guidelines and policies, rules, and regulations
  • Records retention and FOIA laws
  • Mission critical public safety systems, including but not limited to: Computer Aided Dispatch, mobile data computers, 9-1-1 Phones Systems, radio systems, and various public safety related interfaces (i.e. RMS & LEADS)

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, or a related field; plus, three (3) years’ experience and demonstrated knowledge of methods and principles of managing, maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading a public safety computer aided dispatch system and associated software
  • A minimum of four (4) years of multi-discipline (police, fire & EMS) public safety dispatch experience
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Significant experience in the public sector 9-1-1 environment, specifically with the managing and maintenance of a CAD system is highly desirable
  • Ability to respond to after-hours inquiries and callbacks when hardware or software issues arise and on-duty staff cannot resolve the issue

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license
  • Full-access certification in LEADS (Law Enforcement Agencies Data System) is desirable

Telecommunicator (Full Time)

Tri-Com Central Dispatch (Tri-Com) located in Kane County, Illinois is Now Accepting Applications for the position of Telecommunicator (Full-time).

  The position of Telecommunicator (Full-time).Tri-Com Central Dispatch is a multi-jurisdictional 9-1-1 dispatch center located in St Charles, Illinois. We receive 9-1-1 calls and dispatch police, fire and emergency medical calls.  Duties involve answering 9-1-1 calls, transmitting vital information to emergency personnel via the radio, relaying information via a computer-aided dispatch terminal, and answering administrative and non-emergency lines.  

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years old
  • Education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma
  • Ability to speak clear articulate English
  • Full range of hearing in both ears
  • Type accurately with a speed of at least 40 WPM   


The position supports a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation and applicants must have the desire and ability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays. 

Desirable qualifications:

  •  Previous experience in public-safety dispatching
  • Multi-line telephone equipment
  • Fast paced, computerized customer service experience
  • Flexibility, split ear and multi-tasking are paramount

Applicants must successfully pass applicant testing, a keystroke/typing test, and an oral board interview.  After placement on the eligibility list, applicants will take a polygraph test, extensive background investigation, criminal history check, psychological evaluation, physical exam, and drug test.

Experienced 9-1-1 Telecommunicators:

If you are an experienced 9-1-1 Telecommunicator, you may be eligible to start at a higher pay rate. This is dependent on a review of your experience and qualifications. 

Current salary range for this position is  $67,096 - $93,189
